13 Reasons Why is a Netflix Original TV Show based on the book by Jay Asher. After being published in 2007, the novel just recently was brought to life by celebrity producer Selena Gomez, who wanted to bring awareness to the suicide problem amongst teens today. After being released in March 2017, controversy rose due to the graphic depiction of rape, suicide, and other elements regarding this topic. The show also is frowned upon for its romanticization of these heavy topics, people claiming that it will bring teens today to resort to the lengths of suicide shown in the show. Each episode follows Clay Jensen, the protagonist, listening to one side of the tape, revealing why Hannah Baker committed suicide. Under the Summary tab, each tape is discussed in detail.
